Artist Spotlight: Doe Paoro

Body Games x Doe Paoro

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Doe Paoro has a steady grasp upon so many different styles of music that I’m having trouble deciding which track to present to best showcase her undeniable talent.

She so casually switches her style from indie pop, rock, and R&B. Her vocals are a mix between the emotional filled Erykah Badu and Sarah P’s (Keep Shelly in Athens) hauntingly subdued warbling.

“Body Games” is an indie pop track highlighting her capable and crisp vocals while backed by entrancing drums.

You can, and I fully endorse you to, download her first album in entirety here: http://doepaoro.bandcamp.com/

Artist Spotlight - Kitty Pryde

Give Me Scabies x Kitty Pryde

It’s impossible to listen to Kitty Pryde and not think of Uffie. There are many similarities between the two female hip hop artists. For one, they both hit it big after posting a track that went viral on a social media website. After this Florida-based rapper’s “Okay Cupid” track became an underground hit, she started to get some attention and just released a free EP today on her Bandcamp. She was also featured in the New York Times even though she has only been on the scene a short time.

This particular track is actually a remix of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and manages to somehow be entertaining despite that fact. Hah! I greatly recommend you pick up this EP!

Artist Spotlight - Rai Knight

Without You x Rai Knight

Rai Knight is an artist and producer from my hometown (Detroit, Michigan). In 2010 she signed to Michigan based hip hop label Frontstreet Records. In addition to putting out amazing music, she likes to promote other artists as well. She is an active contributing writer to one of my favorite music sites called Indieshuffle.com

Despite all this, she’s still very much under the radar. You should check her out.

I also greatly recommend “Thank You Vengeance”.
