Teenage Ears Top 25 Tracks of 2012 - #23

Memory feat. Taha Aitabi x YoggyOne

Certain tracks are just begging to be played on vinyl and YoggyOne’s “Memory” featuring Taha Aitabi is no exception. YoggyOne’s record “Canopée” is one of this year’s best for vinyl enthusiasts. If you are looking for some good vinyl, pick this up and enjoy my favorite track off this album.

Here is a track off the record I bought off the dude on the street the other day!

I wish I could provide you with information about this guy and his Sister, but he didn’t tell me anything about his name or the album. I thought it would be included, but unfortunately it’s not.

This track features his sister, but he also raps himself on all the other tracks. I just liked this best!!

The other day I was walking down the street with a new record player I had just purchased. This homeless looking dude stopped me, asked me if I liked hip hop, and was telling me how he made music. Now, if you live in a bigger city (maybe even smaller ones), this is not an uncommon occurrence. Dudes are always trying to sell their CD’s or mixtapes, but the homeless looking dude presented me with vinyl.

I was pretty shocked to see him trying to sell me vinyl rather than a CD or something, so it perked my interest and I was asking him a bit about the music or if he had an mp3 player with some tracks on it I could listen to. Unfortunately, he did not.

He told me he recorded it with his sister and it was just plain ol’ good hip hop/rap. He also decorated the cover amazingly well and although every record had the same tracks, he made each cover unique and by hand, so no two were alike. They were pretty freaking cool covers too. I was especially smitten with one made out of vintage ads for old derby hats and oxford shoes that also had a polaroid photo of a poem glued to the front. I wanted to support the guy and since the cover was so sweet looking, I decided to buy the record because I figured if the music turned out to be disappointing, I could put it up on my wall at least, and it would look cool.

Today, I finally had a chance to listen to his music. I was wary, but as soon as the first track began and his sister was pumping out mad rhymes mixed with a vintage soulful sample, I literally screamed out “FUCK YESSS!!!” and started jumping around the room. I recorded a video of me playing the song with my iphone. I’m gonna try to upload it somehow so that you can hear the amazingness for yourself.

If someone tries to sell you vinyl on the street, say yes!

T&W Lab File #11 x Tiger & Woods

Vintage shopping in LA blows NYC out of the water. There are so many stores and the clothes are so cheap! Sunday brings flea markets!! I’m about to go vintage shopping today. This song by Tiger & Woods has an old school vintage vinyl vibe. It gets to be my anthem for today.

If you dig it, then I really recommend you download the entire album which is also free on their soundcloud.
